About St. Joseph Family Medicine Clinic
St. Joseph Family Medicine Clinic first opened its doors in 1990, serving Orléans and all of Ottawa East. It was then, and is still today, focused on family medicine. Today, SJFMC operates two clinics that are wholly owned and managed by a team of dedicated doctors who are invested in ensuring families receive medical care of the highest standard in an effective and timely manner.
Results & Highlights
Since adopting CHIME, we’ve been able to reduce the load on our admin team, improve patient flow, and make better use of staff time throughout the clinic. The biggest impact has come from the check-in station and auto-rooming, which have helped us automate routine tasks, keep physicians on time, and create a smoother, more patient-centred experience. Overall, we estimate that CHIME automated the equivalent of roughly 45 hours of work per week
Reduced Front-desk & Admin Workload
The check-in kiosk reduced how much manual work needs to be done at reception
This allowed us to redirect reception staff toward higher-value tasks like follow-ups and answering phone calls, which helped reduce how long patients were waiting on hold

Auto-rooming allows the next patient to be called into a room as soon as that room is ready
This helps our nurses and ushers prepare patients sooner, reduces physician wait time, and keeps the clinic running more smoothly

Patients appreciate having a tablet outside the exam room with their name on it, which helps them find their way and reinforces that the clinic feels modern and well organized
Our Biggest Challenge was…
The biggest challenge was figuring out our workflow in a clear and deliberate way. Like many clinics, we had an established process that was substantial but not really written down anywhere. To get the full benefit of CHIME, we had to put that workflow on paper and work through how it should function in practice. That took time, but it also helped us identify gaps in our flow and improve how the clinic operates.
