Notifying MD of Cancelled Appointment

You will sometimes see a notification like this in the staff queue:

“Contact MD - pt cancelled appt @ [time of this task] after checking in”

This notification means that the patient checked in for their appointment, then checked out when they became unavailable.

Message the MD with the following template:

FYI - FIRST NAME, LAST INITIAL has CANCELED their virtual appointment at [....] AFTER checking in on time. This means the patient is basically saying they are "no longer available to be seen virtually".

Conceptually, this is the equivalent of a patient showing up for their appointment in person, but then leaving before you're able to see them.

If you would like to send an invoice regarding late cancellation, please create a tickler per the no-show/late cancel protocol - the patient has been advised that there may be a fee

I have NOT modified the patient's appointment in our EMR so that you can decide how best to update it for yourself in the circumstances (e.g. mark it cancelled / no show / just deleted altogether?)
